What does “Handicap” stand for?
The term “Handicap” stands for a virtual head start for a selection that is expressed in goals/points/sets etc. Bookmakers are the ones that offer a handicap and they can be:
1. Positive (1)
2. Negative (-1)
3. Zero
When you place your bet on “Handicap 1(2)” on a football match, this implies that you have given Team 1 a 2 -'head start 'goal.
1. If the match ends 1-1, then adding the handicap will generate a 3-1 score and the bet will win.
2. If the match ends 0-3, adding the handicap will result in a score of 2-3 and you will lose the bet.
3. If the match ends 0-2, then a score of 2-2 will be produced by adding the handicap and the bet will result in a push (stakes returned).
4. You need to subtract rather than add if the handicap is "negative".
Let’s take a look at other examples of handicap:
1. Only when the home team wins the match by two goals can the Bet W1 Handicap (-1) win.
2. Bet W2 Handicap (1) will win only when the away team doesn't lose the match (the away team's draw or win).
3. Only when the home team wins the match by scoring one goal (or when the away team loses with one goal) can Bet X Handicap (1) win.
4. Only when the home team loses the match by one goal (if the away team wins by one goal) can Bet X Handicap (-1) win.
5. Only when the home team wins the match by three goals will the Bet W1 Handicap (-2) win. Bet W2 Handicap (2) will only win if the match results are as follows:
● A draw
● The home team wins by one goal
● Any wins of the away team.
6. Only when the home team wins by two goals will the Bet X Handicap (2) win.
7. Only when the home team loses by two goals (or the away team wins by two goals) will Bet X Handicap (-2) win.
